I'm a beauty lover. Face pampers, fancy hair-dos, makeup, cute clothes - you name it; It's what makes us girls! But I've definitely noticed the soaring high prices for beauty products, and being the frugal gal I am, I dug real deep into the world of household tips and tricks to get my share of the beauty world. One thing that kept popping up in my various researches was lemon and honey as natural lightening agents.
In a nutshell, lemons have various antioxidants and acids that are good for your skin, as well as anti-bacterial properties. The alpha-hydroxy acids in lemon is the property that can lighten your skin. But enough about science! Bottom line, honey and lemon are natural ways of lightening.
Here are some ways to use honey and lemon in your beauty life...
As a face mask or cleanser:
Mix honey and lemon juice in a bowl. I also added in some greek yogurt and extra virgin olive oil for moisturizing. Add more honey and lemon for better brightening results (There's really no proper measurements, they're all natural ingredients so nothing can really go wrong)
How to apply: Dampen clean face with warm water to open pours. Use sugar and olive oil mix to exfoliate face and lips (rub lips together to exfoliate lips, then lick off sugar/oil mix with tongue!). Without washing off sugar/oil mix, apply the face mask and massage it into face. Rinse face with soap cleanser to wash off oily residue.
Blemish treatment:
Apply honey and lemon to blemishes before bed. Keep it on overnight. I suggest putting a bandaid or cloth of some sort to prevent treatment from going on your pillows or hair.
Lightening hair:
Apply lemon and honey to hair and spend minimum 4-6 hours in the sun (the sun is also a natural way to bleach). Many people say this method is not effective, and the sun disappeared before I can get a chance to try it out. So you're on your own for this one :)
